

Michael Wittmann (sometimes spelled Wittman), born April 22, 1914 in Vogelthal, Kingdom of Bavaria and died in action on August 8, 1944 in Normandy, was a German tank commander of the Second World War. Nazi propaganda made him a hero, crediting him with more than 130 destructions of armored vehicles and 130 destructions of anti-tank guns.
