The SCALP-EG (acronym for “Autonomous Long-Range Conventional Cruise System” and “General Employment”), formerly “Long-Range Precision Weapon”, is a cruise missile developed at the end of 1994 by Matra and British Aerospace then manufactured by MBDA. The British version is called Storm Shadow. This weapon is designed to strike the enemy in its deep territory up to nearly 400 km according to the President of the Republic François Hollande and even 560 km according to the Royal Air Force, whatever the air defense, thanks to its stealth which would make it almost undetectable, including by AWACS radar planes.
Along with the ASMPA and the MdCN, it is one of the cruise missiles used by the French army.
