The Préchot prismatic water tank was designed at the end of the 19th century as part of the 60 cm military transport system developed by Commander Prosper Péchot. Used in the 1880s-1890s, it was used to supply water to locomotives and troops on field networks. Its prismatic shape, more stable than conventional cylindrical drums, allowed for a better balance of the load and safe transport on the bogies Pechot cars. These tanks were widely used during the First World War on the frontal supply networks.
