The 155 mm De Bange gun, designed by Captain Charles Ragon de Bange in the 1870s, was a heavy field artillery piece adopted by the French army from 1877. It is distinguished by the use of the screw head interrupted with a copper ring shutter, a major innovation at the time. Shooting explosive or shrapnel shells, it was widely used during the First World War, mainly because of its firepower and robustness, although it is relatively slow to put on battery.
