One ankertaumine german is a marine mine used during World War II, designed to float under the surface of the water, held in place by an anchor attached to the bottom. Spherical and equipped with point detonators (called "Hertz Hörner"), it explodes in contact with a ship. Used primarily against enemy ships, it was dumped from warships or submarines to block strategic sea routes.
