1:35 - Marco Polo Diorama
Marco Polo, famous Venetian explorer of the 13th century, did not meet Gengis Khan directly, but his story evokes his encounter with Kubilai Khan, grandson of Gengis Khan and Mongolian emperor. In 1275 Marco Polo and his family reached the Kubilai Khan court in Shangdu (Xanadu). Impressed by Marco's knowledge and intelligence, Kubilai Khan named him emissary, allowing Polo to travel through the Mongolian empire and bring back precious stories. These adventures, compiled in "The Book of Wonders", offer a unique insight into Mongolian culture and vast territories under the Yuan Dynasty, founded by Gengis Khan.
