The Cannone da 149/23 (often noted 149/23 g) is a Italian heavy cannon from the end of the 19th century, used as Fortress and seat piece Then largely engaged during the First world war. Of 149.1 mm caliber with a tube of 23 Calibres (approx. 3.42 m), he pulled about projectiles about 30.4 kg at a maximum reach of about 9 km.
On the Alpine forehead, he became famous when a copy was hoisted in high mountains in the Adamello massif ; his servants would have nicknamed it "The ippopotamo" ("Hippopotamus"), so much this mass of steel seemed out of its element up there.
