François-Athanase Charette of the Contract (1763-1796) is a French royalist military leader, iconic figure of the War of Vendée. Former marine officer, he becomes one of the leading leaders of the insurrection against the revolution. Bold strategist and charismatic leader, he leads a formidable guerrilla against Republican armies. Captured in 1796, it is shot in Nantes, becoming a major symbol of Vendée resistance.
