The Midi type water crane is a historic railway device used to refuel steam locomotives. It comprises a vertical metal column, often made of cast iron or steel, mounted on a solid base. A pivoting arm, or boom, directs the flexible hose to the locomotive tank. The operator controls the water flow via valves and levers. Connected to an elevated water tank or supply network, the crane ensures efficient refueling. Historically present in depots and marshalling yards, it is today a heritage element, often preserved in railway museums to illustrate the railway engineering of the past.
